Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
